What to Expect
A walk in the Goyt Valley is a fine way to soak up the wild, open character of the western Peak District. This route links three classic Ethels; Shining Tor, Cats Tor and Foxlowe Edge, following high, windswept ridges above the reservoirs and moorland below. It’s a rewarding circuit that blends big skies, quiet paths and far-reaching views, with each summit adding its own moment of drama to a memorable day on the hills.
This is a nice introduction to Peak District walking. The incline is steady on a well walked path and once we are up its nice and undulating. The path is quite rocky and uneven on the way up. One on the tops we follow paved footpaths. There is a very short section of road walking but it's a quiet lane. It can be quite exposed along the top and often windy. Back down the hill we are walking on grassy footpaths. There may be livestock along this route.
