It can be hard to decide if a walk is for you so we have a rating system. We rate the walk on its terrain more than it's distance. A 10 mile walk along a bike trail can be relatively easy compared to a 3 mile hike up Snowdon, so please do take into account distance as well as rating. All our walks will involve stiles, squeeze and ones that need to be climbed, wooden or stone. For stile free walks please see our accessible walks. As our walks are in The Peak District and surrounding area we will be dealing with hills no matter what!
Very Easy - A rare one for us! Well worn, wide footpaths, gravelled trails, river side walking. Small amount of inclines. Beginner friendly. Very few stiles.
Easy - Countryside public footpaths with relatively easy terrain underfoot. Small or steady hills. Good for a regular dog walker.
Moderate - Countryside public footpaths, ground underfoot could be rocky, muddy or have trip hazards. Hills are a definite. Some experience required.
Hard - Rocky, hard going underfoot, big steps up and down, thought needs to be taken where to put feet. Possible muddy and boggy in parts. Steeper inclines and quite a bit of up and down. Walking in exposed areas.
Tough - This is included in our longer days as the longer distances and remoteness can be mentally tough. Ground underfoot will be very uneven. Some off-path walking through overgrowth. Definitely steep inclines with a lot of up and down. Bogs may be encountered and weather will be a challenge in these areas.
Very Tough - A very long day! Nearing 20 + miles, generally only on our challenge walks. Some of these walks may have a hard terrain rather than tough.
