What to Expect
This scenic circular walk explores the heart of the White Peak, combining industrial heritage with classic limestone countryside. From the village, the route heads out to the historic Magpie Mine before dropping into Monyash for a well-earned lunch stop. The return journey follows the tranquil beauty of Lathkill Dale, with riverside paths, limestone cliffs, and wide open views to finish the day on a peaceful note.
This is a nice steady route for hot summer days. Not much hill walking, a small amount is done at the start of the day. The walk takes us mainly through grassy fields. There is livestock on this route, including very inquistive cows. The second half the day is through a limestone dale which gets very uneven underfoot and can be slippery when wet. Lathkill Dale is a protected area so dogs must stay on leads and not go in the water.
