What to Expect
For one time only, this Sunday social walk heads to Belper to celebrate 250 years since the first Strutt’s Mill was built, a moment that helped kick-start the Industrial Revolution. The route takes in high-level views over the town and surrounding countryside along an ancient road, before dropping down to a cooler, gentler stretch beside the River Derwent that once powered the mills. We’ll pause for a café stop in Belper, then enjoy a short history tour through the old cobbled streets, finishing back at the impressive mill that began it all.
This is a mixture of countryside and town walking. We take on the dreaded Chevin Mount from the Derwent. Its steep but short. The routes here are very well walked with open paths through fields, parkland and bridle tracks. There is a little road walking, road crossing etc. But its mostly along quiet lanes or cobbled streets. The route along the Derwent can get bit a slippery when wet. Its a steady route, if you're used to our Crich Sunday Social's then this will be a doddle.
