What to Expect
This gentle walk from Bonsall heads out into quiet countryside to bag Blakelow Hill, one of the Derbyshire Ethels. The route follows peaceful lanes and open paths, offering a calm, unrushed feel and fine views over the surrounding hills. After ticking off the summit, it’s an easy return to Bonsall for a well-earned lunch, before rounding off the day with a wander through nearby Cromford, one of the area’s prettiest villages and rich in industrial heritage. A relaxed half-day walk with just the right mix of hills, calm, and character.
This is a nice easy going Ethel route without too much incline, perfect for a hot day in June. Or a quick walk on a wet day! The steepest section is right at the start in the village and then its a nice steady mix of open fields and bridle tracks. There is a little quiet lane walking half way. There will be livestock on this route. The ground is uneven on some of this walk as we are in limestone country. This is an old mining area, they have been filled and blocked but keeping to the footpath and dogs on leads will be important.
