What to Expect
Enjoy a scenic walk from the charming village of Castleton, Derbyshire, winding up Cave Dale beneath the dramatic ruins of Peveril Castle. Take in sweeping views over the Hope Valley, with Mam Tor and the Great Ridge rising in the distance. After your walk, relax by a cosy pub fire with a pint and a hearty meal, or treat yourself to a warming hot chocolate in one of Castleton’s welcoming cafés.
Cave Dale can be muddy and the limestone slippy when wet. The ascents and descents are nice and gradual. We will be following well walked paths and tracks. There will be some road crossing and village walking. We will pass Windy Knoll, its called that for a reason! So be aware of being exposed to the all the elements. There are some steep and deep steps coming down from Treak Cliff Cavern. The village may be busy with cars and people with narrow pavements to navigate. There will be livestock throughout this walk.
