What to Expect

Starting in Hathersage, this gentle Peak District walk rolls out across open hills and quiet paths, ideal for anyone taking their first steps into walking in the Peaks. The route passes North Lees, often linked to the inspiration for Thornfield Hall in Jane Eyre and the burial site of Robin Hood's Little John, adding a touch of history to the day. With minimal climbing, you’re still rewarded with wide, open views across the surrounding countryside. The walk circles back into Hathersage, where you can round things off with a coffee, a pint, and something good to eat.

We start in the busy centre before heading out into open fields. There is a mixture of wide bridle tracks and pubic footpaths. The majority of the walk is gated but there is still a couple of stiles. We walk through a wooded area that is uneven underfoot with bare roots and rocks. There is some slight inclines, but it is steady and we can take our time. There is livestock throughout this walk and it cannot to be predicted where they will be. This is a popular route and on a nice day in the school holidays it could be busier than usual.
