What to Expect

Lantern Pike can be achieved with a short walk from Hayfield, but this is more rewarding with an opportunity to take in the stunning views around Hayfield. Not only that but we get to walk in the footsteps of history along Snake Path, a footpath that has been secured since 1897 and played a part in the Kinder Mass Trespass of 1932. We pass the iconic shooting cabin and twenty trees, great for artistic photographs.

There is a lot of open track walking, hopefully avoiding too much autumn mud. We'll be on the Sett Valley Trail and Pennine Bridleway for a good chunk, which means there may be cyclists and horses. There is some footpaths through open fields but these are well walked and easy to manage. We do have some quiet lane walking and the busy A624 to cross. There will be livestock throughout. It can get quite exposed along these tops even though we don't reach great heights, so please be prepared with plenty of waterproofs and warm layers.
