What to Expect
Starting from the high village of Flash, this walk has a real big-sky feel from the outset. The landscape opens out quickly, with broad views, sweeping hills and a sense of space as we head onto Axe Edge. Expect wild, airy scenery, changing light, and long horizons, with Cheeks Hill, the highest natural point in Staffordshire, providing a quiet but satisfying high point of the day.
We start off on the road for a wander through Flash, before taking the gradual ascent up Oliver Hill. There is some ascent and descent but once we've reached Axe Edge it's easy going. Though we can see Buxton throughout this walk it feels extremely remote. We will be very exposed in any weathers so be prepared. There is livestock throughout including cows. The paths are through farmed fields and open moorland.
