What to Expect
Expect a vision of merry old England with quaint Hartington nestled amongst green, rolling hills. Lambs are frolicking besides their mothers and tractors rattle along quiet country lanes. Stop off for a view from Pilsbury Castle, the remains of a Norman hill fort. The best part is the ice cream finish at the duck pond in Hartington and the bag full of Stilton Cheese from Hartington's Old Cheese Shop as an edible souvenir.
The hills of the Upper Dove Valley can be quite steep so expect some leg burners for the first half. The second half is delightfully steady. This walk is notorious for its boggy sections so sensible footwear please! As mentioned there will be a lot of sheep with newborn lambs plus cows so dogs on a short lead at all times. The whole route is on open fields with footpaths and stiles to get over.
