What to Expect
This June walk from Monsal Head explores high limestone hills and the quiet beauty of Millers Dale at their summer best. Beginning with wide views across the Wye Valley, the route drops gently onto riverside paths where wildflowers line the trail and the sound of water carries through the dale. With a mix of open hilltop walking and cool, sheltered valley paths, it’s an unhurried journey that captures the freshness and colour of early summer in the White Peak.
We tackle the hill first, a gradual one along a bridle track. The route off the hill to the Dale is very steep and it may be a good idea to bring a pole if you are unsure. The route along the Wye is level but be aware of trip hazards such as tree roots and rocks. We have some steps to deal with at Monsal Head itself. We will be walking along a busy cycle way at the end of the walk. We will be walking in a small amount areas with accessible livestock.
