What to Expect
A walk in the Goyt Valley is a great way to experience the wild, open character of the western Peak District. This rewarding circuit links Shining Tor, Cats Tor and Foxlowe Edge along high, windswept ridges above the reservoirs and moorland, before dropping into the valley to visit the atmospheric ruins of Errwood Hall. Big skies, quiet paths and far-reaching views make this a memorable day on the hills.
This is a nice introduction to Peak District walking. The incline is steady on a well walked path and once we are up its nice and undulating. The path is quite rocky and uneven on the way up. One on the tops we follow paved footpaths. There is a very short section of road walking but it's a quiet lane. It can be quite exposed along the top and often windy. Back down the hill we are walking on grassy footpaths. There may be livestock along this route.
