What to Expect
This Ethel-bagging route sets out from Miller’s Dale, climbing onto open limestone hills to take in Sough Top and Chelmorton Low. In summer the White Peak is at its best, with flower-rich grasslands, dry stone walls, and wide, sunlit views stretching across the plateau. The walk finishes with an easy and scenic return along the Monsal Trail through the dramatic limestone dale.
We follow the Limestone Way for a time along wide bridle tracks. There is open field walking and we do have to cross a busy road twice. We tackle some steep sided dales where the limestone can get slippery when wet. The Monsal Trail will have cyclist along the route. If we doing well for time we can drop down to see the Chee Dale stepping stones. Both the Ethels are on private land but we get within a few metres of them. We head through a tunnel near the end. There will be livestock throughout.
