What to Expect
This walk explores the rich history of Belper and the surrounding countryside, combining stories of the town’s industrial past with some of its finest viewpoints. As we move through historic streets, river valleys, and open fields, the route reveals how Belper grew from a small settlement into a key part of the Derwent Valley story. Along the way, wide views over the town and beyond offer a chance to pause, reflect, and appreciate the landscape that has shaped Belper for centuries.
This is a mixture of countryside and town walking. All the footpaths here are well walked through farmland. A lot of the walk is high on an ancient road, its wide and walled but can be uneven with rocks and roots. There is one very steep hill near the start. There may be some livestock along route. We will be visiting sites of interest so they will be places in the town where we stop and have a chat, this will be closer to the end once the dogs have had a good run. This is more a dog walk peppered with history, perfect for those that want to know more about Belper but happy to keep their legs and dogs moving.
