What to Expect

Bradwell is an underated village in the Peak District, often missed out for the honeypots of Castleton and Hathersage. This walk takes up onto Abney Moor, perfectly located for some of the best views of the White and Dark Peak. It's a stunning circular route that avoids the mud and bog by walking along wide gravel tracks and quiet country lanes. 

To get to Abney Moor we do have a steep walk up but once we are up its a steady route all the way round until we come back off the moor. The walk is mainly along bridle tracks and quiet country lanes. There is a little footpath walking cutting across the moor. The tracks do have rocks that can be uneven underfoot. Motorcyclist, cyclists and horses do use this route but not so much in winter. There may be livestock along the route but it is often few and far between. It is quite open and exposed up here but we mostly avoid the tops, keeping to lower tracks around the moor. Dogs are strictly not allowed off the footpaths so will need to be on a short lead, though there are areas where the path is fenced or walled either side to prevent access to the moor.
