What to Expect
Win Hill is one of the Peak District’s most rewarding short walks, beginning with a steep but satisfying climb that quickly lifts you above the surrounding valleys. The effort pays off as you reach the open top, where wide views stretch across the Dark Peak and down to the waters of Ladybower Reservoir. From the summit ridge, the walk becomes gentler and more relaxed, following airy paths before descending into the peaceful woodland beside Ladybower. Here, shaded trails and the quiet edge of the reservoir offer a calm and restful finish to a route that perfectly blends challenge, scenery, and tranquillity.
We start onto a busy road for a very short stint. The first few kms of this walk are steep and a little relentless so we'll go very slow, with lots of stops. The ground is uneven with lots of roots and loose rocks underfoot. The very top of Win Hill is a little exposed with some steep for small drops. Off the top its a wide open path with a gradual desecent. There is a steep sectoin through the woods, again with exposed roots and loose rocks. Once at the reservoir the path is flat and gravelled. We will need to be aware of cyclists. On the top it is exposed to the elements so sun or rain be prepared, we will have a little more shelter when in the woods. There may be sheep on the hill.
