What to Expect
This circular walk from Hathersage quickly leaves the village behind, climbing onto the open hills that rise above the Hope Valley. A steady ascent rewards you with broad views across the surrounding moorland and the patchwork fields below. From the high ground, the route gradually descends back towards Hathersage, finishing with a peaceful stretch beside the River Derwent. The gentle riverside path provides a relaxing end to the walk, returning you to the village after a satisfying mix of open hill scenery and quiet valley trails.
The walk starts in the village before heading out into open fields. There are some hills to start with, nothing too strenuous. It's all along footpaths in farming fields with livestock in and some quiet lane walking. There is a small section through a golf course. We have to cross and walk along a busy road that does take some care. Once we are along the river its nice and flat with wide open paths and fields. Again there will be livestock throughout. Hathersage is a busy place, you will have to book ahead if you wanted to eat anywhere in particular.
