What to Expect
This circular walk from Bakewell climbs out of the town and up onto the hills towards the pretty village of Over Haddon. The ascent soon opens up wide views across the surrounding countryside, with a particularly fine vantage point overlooking the historic Haddon Hall nestled in the valley below. From the high ground, the route descends back towards Bakewell, eventually joining the peaceful riverside path along the River Wye. Following the water through meadows and woodland, the walk returns gently into Bakewell, rounding off a varied route that combines hilltop views with a relaxing riverside finish.
We start walking along the river through the town before crossing a busy road. We a few kms uphill though its steady going. We have a little quiet road walking in and out of Over Haddon. In Over Haddon we can stop for refreshments at the pub. Back towards Bakewell is through open fields and along riverside paths. The second half of the day will have livestock throughout. We don't actually visit Haddon Hall grounds itself but we do have good views from the surrounding hills.
