What to Expect
Set out on a refreshing spring walk from the charming village of Wetton to the dramatic Thor’s Cave, with its sweeping views over the Manifold Valley. Follow peaceful paths through Grindon and along the riverside to Wetton Mill, where you can pause for a relaxed lunch surrounded by birdsong and wildflowers. The route loops back through rolling green hills and limestone dales, a perfect taste of the Peak District in bloom.
This can be quite a popular route so it may be busy. The cave itself can be slippery, its limestone so we need to be careful especially if it is wet and muddy. There is sheer drops. The cave is large and echoes, some dogs may not like it, the views from outside are amazing so its not necessary to explore. It's steep heading into and out of the Manifold valley. There is some quiet lane walking through a village. The optional Wetton Hill summit is steep and has to be approached via a very high wall stile. We will only do this if they whole group can manage it. There will be livestock throughout including sheep during lambing season.
