What to Expect
Set out from Onecote on a charming walk to Butterton, wandering over open moors and rolling fields with a visit to a trig point for far-reaching views. With the option of a couple of cosy pub stops along the way, this route, part of the Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival, blends scenery, solitude, and classic Peak District village charm.
We have a good mixture of open fields and bridle tracks on this walk, both of which could be muddy. There is a few ascents and descents, a paticular steep one near the end. There will be livestock, especially sheep, in the fields. There is quite a few stiles to contend with and as this is a quieter side of the Peak District they aren't as often well managed so we may have to deal with some wobbly ones! We have a little bit of quiet village walking and a few quiet roads to cross. Please bring a packed lunch, there is the option for us to stop off in Butterton at the pub and finish at a pub in Onecote but it isn't definite.
