What to Expect
This spring walk links four Peak District Ethels in one rewarding loop, taking in Parkhouse Hill, Chrome Hill, High Edge and Hollins Hill. In April the limestone ridges are alive with fresh green slopes, early wildflowers and wide views across the Dove Valley, but this is no gentle ramble, it’s hard work, with plenty of steep ups and downs that keep the legs busy throughout. It’s a compact but characterful outing that blends sharp skylines, rolling pasture and a real sense of achievement.
Be prepared for some steep hills along the classic Dragons Back route of Parkhouse Hill and Chrome Hill. We do advise that if you have a fear of heights or have an unruly dog we don't recommend this route as the way off Parkhouse Hill can be very slippy and steep on the limestone. All of the walk can get muddy and slippy. There is livestock throughout on this walk and it is lambing season. Hollins Hill is less walked than other areas so paths are often a little overgrown.
