One of our favourite shorter walks. The views from Higger Tor are incredible and Carl Wark is a fascinating, disputed historical fort. Finish at the National Trust café with views of the whole walk.

What to Expect
Set out from the beautiful Longshaw Estate for a classic Peak District adventure packed with moorland views, ancient history, and fresh air. Wander through heather-clad paths towards the dramatic gritstone outcrops of Higger Tor and the Iron Age hillfort of Carl Wark, both offering sweeping panoramas over the Burbage Valley. After exploring these rugged landmarks, stroll back through the estate to round off your walk with a well-earned hot chocolate and sweet treat at the National Trust café, the perfect cosy finish to a day on the hills.
We cross a couple of busy roads on this walks both near the start and end. We have a steady incline with a gravelled track, easy walking. Eventually we cut across more difficult terrain with a sharp incline to Higger Tor. Thought is needed where to place feet and it can be quite exposed to the elements on the top. Coming down is steep and rocky, we will take it slow. Across the moorland we followed well walked routes. Be aware that there can be livestock along here. We avoid a boggy section but it can still get wet in winter. Little to no stiles on this one!
