What to Expect
Join us for a merry wander through some of the finest pubs that the Belper countryside has to offer! Our festive route takes us on a scenic stroll through Holbrook, Bargate, Makeney, and Openwoodgate, calling in at a handpicked selection of dog-friendly locals brimming with character and Christmas cheer. We’ll meet at the White Hart, Bargate, or hop aboard the 71 bus from King Street to start the day together. The first few stops are all about the spirit (not the spirits!) with soft drinks only until we reach our lunchtime destination, the Hollybush at Makeney, for a well-earned festive lunch beside the fire. Afterwards, we’ll make our way back through the lanes, with the option to finish at the White Hart for a final toast, or carry on to the Black Bull’s Head in Openwoodgate for those who want to keep the festivities flowing. Fancy dress is heartily encouraged, think Santa hats, tinsel, and anything that jingles! Bring your best Christmas spirit, your walking boots, and your four-legged friends for a day of laughter, good company, and festive fun.
This walk will be along a mixture of field footpaths, bridletracks and road walking. If you're from Belper you'll probably have had some experience of walking these routes before. There will be stiles, farms, uneven ground and tree routes to navigate. We'll find sheep, cows and horses in a few of the fields so please be responsible with the dogs. Sorry to be Grinch but soft drinks only on this walk until we can get some grub in us! We still need to be responsible dog owners and walkers, don't worry though the festive cheer will still be there and we can celebrate once the walk is over! Drinks and food are not included in the price. If driving and leaving the car please park considerately on the street. Meet at 10:45 for the 71 bus from King Street bus stop A. There are bus stops near to each pub, please be aware of where and bus times.
