What to Expect
A great route out to one of my favourite hills in the Peak. We’ll head up Win Hill on a steady, easy-going path, with plenty of time to take it all in. From the top, the views are some of the best around; Ladybower Reservoir below, the Hope Valley stretching out, and the Great Ridge on the horizon. We’ll finish with an easy walk back before stopping at the pub for a bite to eat or a celebratory pint after bagging one of the best Ethels.
We start off nice and steady with a gravelled track next to the reservoir. We have to cross a busy road to get there. There will be cyclists along this route with some mountain bikes coming off the hill. We have a gradual incline through a wood, again there could be mountain bikes to look out for. Once on the hill we are on an exposed ridge. There could be sheep along here. The incline to Win Hill is easy with a last little steep section. Win Hill juts out so on a windy day it can be especially windy. Our route down is very steep, we can go slowly, the path is quite wide so we can zig zag if necessary. Poles would be a big help on the knees but aren't important. The ground is nice and grippy even when wet. After the pub we have a short stint along a busy road back to the car.
