What to Expect

This route takes us up a quiet route onto Bleaklow, it feel truly adventurous off the main paths in the never-ending moorland. We bag Bleaklow Head before avoiding the bog over to the crash site. It's an impressive site with a sad story to tell. We explore here for a while, the crash is well spread out, then bag our second Ethel of the day. The views over the south of the Peak are far reaching as we make our way off the hill. We stop off for a couple more plane crashes, these far smaller and a little more difficult to find but just as interesting and moving.

We will be walking in a very exposed area which can be extremely boggy underfoot. Care is needed to keep to the paths and be aware of foot placement. It is initially steep getting onto Bleaklow after which its fairly flat as it is a plateau. It's rare to get a clear day on Bleaklow so sticking together is important in low visibilty. There are steep cliff edges and deep cloughs. From Bleaklow Head and off the hill it is well walked with a clear path, some of which is paved. If we are lucky enough to have a clear day then there is no shade so bring plenty of sun cream and water. On a wet and windy day bring plenty of waterproofs and layers, its a different world up here!
