What to Expect
Three Shires Head is a place to be seen to be believed. Most visit in summer for a cooling dip but I prefer visiting when the river is in full flow. The waterfalls are stunning and you have a pick of places to sit down and soak it all in. This walk starts at the highest village in the UK and in a few short miles you can visit all three counties, Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire. We even have the oppotunity to bag an Ethel if everyone is up for a small hill walk!
This walk mostly follows low traffic country lanes and bridletracks. There is a small section of open field walking on public footpaths that could get the boots muddy! The hills are small though the one near the end is a little steep. We will have a few stiles to tackle nearer the end. There is livestock throughout. We are starting high up so the area is quite exposed and colder than the surrounding area. Please bring plenty of waterproofs and warm layers.
