What to Expect

This is a beautiful walk right up on to the moors of the stunning Derwent Edge then down below along the beautiful Ladybower Reservoir. Views over Ladybower and over to Kinder Scout and Bleaklow catch our eye for the whole walk and the wild moors sweep onwards to Sheffield. This certianly feels like a wild walk into the middle of nowhere and one of our favourites that we do time and time again.

We start with a small amount of road walking and we have to cross the busy A57. From here it is woodland and moorland footpaths all the way. The paths are wide and well walked but very uneven underfoot with loose rocks and exposed routes. The hill onto Derwent Edge is steep but we can zig zag slowly as we like. We can be very exposed up here and the temperatue and winds can be quite bitter so please bring enough layers and waterproofs. From here its a steady bridletrack all the way back to an even gravelled track. There may be sheep throughout on this walk, though mostly behind fences. This is a great walk for anybody starting out wanting to take on a bit of a challenge without a great distance involved.
