What to Expect

This rewarding walk begins in the grand surroundings of Chatsworth Park before climbing onto the rugged gritstone heights of Birchen Edge. Along the way, you’ll pass the historic Nelson and Wellington Monuments, striking tributes to British naval heroes with fascinating stories. The route offers sweeping views over the Chatsworth Estate and the surrounding Peak District, combining dramatic landscapes, rich history, and impressive rock formations for a memorable day out.

The walk is easy going through Chatsworth, dogs will most likely have to stay on leads due to deer and sheep on the grounds. Our ascent is quite steep but once we are up we are up! We are walking in open access land so a bit wilder than farmed fields. Be aware of sheep and in paticular; the very friendly highland cattle on Baslow Edge. We are walking along some steep edges with uneven, rocky ground underneath. We do have to cross the road a couple of times and walk a few meters along a busy A road. At this time of year the ground will be wet and soggy but generally still good to walk on.
