What to Expect
This scenic walk from Buxton explores the rugged moorland and sweeping views around Castle Naze, taking in two Ethels along the way, Black Edge and Combs Hill. With open landscapes, ancient hillfort remains, and panoramic vistas, it’s a rewarding route for anyone who loves classic Peak District walking.
We have a gradual incline up a rocky track. Its then open access land following a narrow uneven path around the circumference of the moor. It can get very wet and boggy, particularly on the NW side. There are steep drops in certain areas. There is livestock spread out along the walk. We are away from any roads for the duration of the walk with only a short stint right at the end. It is very exposed up here so be ready for all elements. This is a great walk if you want an introduction to moorland walking before tackling something more difficult like Kinder Scout or Bleaklow.
