What to Expect
This big day walk takes you from Dovestone Reservoir to Chew Reservoir, exploring Dovestone Moss and the striking Trinnacle. Along the way you’ll pass the Memorial Cross at Ashway Gap, enjoy sweeping views over the Chew Valley, and descend through the beautiful Birchen Clough, finishing with a tranquil walk alongside three shimmering reservoirs. It’s a full day of dramatic landscapes, rewarding vistas, and varied terrain.
The route is uneven underfoot with gritstone. There will be livestock around but sparsley. It is still ground nesting season so dogs on leads at all times. We have a few escape routes along the way if we find the day too difficult or if the weather turns out to be too hot or miserable. We are without shelter on the top so we need to be prepared for all weathers with plenty of water for us and our dogs. There is a section that can get very boggy, but this normally in the wetter months and shouldn't be hard to navigate. Coming off the moor there is a very steep route through a clough, this can be avoided with a slight return journey, dropping down to the resevoir sooner. If you're up for an adventure and big sky views then this is for you!
