What to Expect
We start in the village of Hope and head up onto Win Hill with fine views over Ladybower. We spend a lot of the day on the edge of the expansive, heather strewn Kinder Plateau looking into the Edale valley. In the afternoon we'll be taking the rollercoaster route over the Great Ridge from Mam Tor to Lose Hill, enjoying being able to see the long distance we have come. Back into Hope we can visit the pub for a celebratory pint.
Most of this walk is high up on the hills, with a mixture of paved and worn paths in open access land. There is a small amount of road walking at the beginning and end to and from the car park. There is an initial bit of steep ground to begin with to get us onto the tops but then the ups and downs because less arduous. This walk is all about distance rather than ascent. Another steep section to come off the hill at the end into Hope. Most of the walk is paved but unpaved sections can become quite boggy. All is uneven underfoot.
This is a challenging walk with 20 miles of walking. You need to be prepared for a very long day on the hill in all weathers, summer heat and miserable rain. Once up on the hill if someone felt they couldn't continue then we would all have come off the hill as a group. Even then it would be a long walk back to Hope or to a bus stop. Please be fit and ready.
