What to Expect
The birds are singing and sunshine is glittering on the crystal clear waters of the river Lathkill......ruined by the big splash of a hot dog going for a well earned swim. Youlgreave is a delightful village to start at, along with Monyash, where we'll be stopping for lunch, either at the cafe or for a pack up. When the heat of the day is at its highest we stroll along the delightful River Lathkill, keeping under the shade of the trees. If we're lucky we'll get to see the rare Jacobs Ladders that blooms in June.
We're avoiding the summer heat in this walk so lots of riverside walking but not for the whole journey. There is some up hill initally and then it nicely flattens out and all downhill in the afternoon. As always it is uneven underfoot with rocks and plenty of roots along the riverside. One section we drop into a steep sided dale with Limestone steps which can turn very slippy when wet. We cross a couple of country roads. We do ask that you can resist letting yours dog into the water unless necessary. It is a protected habitat.
