What to Expect
This walk onto Kinder Scout via Ollerbrook offers a steadier, more dog-friendly alternative to some of the steeper routes, making it ideal for a relaxed day on the moors. The gradual ascent provides sweeping views of the Edale Valley, with the added bonus of late-summer heather likely still in bloom, painting the landscape in purples and pinks. After reaching the Kinder plateau, the route returns via the historic Jacob’s Ladder—a well-paved descent with dramatic views—rounding off a scenic and rewarding circuit through one of the Peak District’s most iconic areas.
We avoid the steep scrambles but still have quite a steep ascent on the plateua itself with some steep edges along the path. The ground is uneven on some of the ascent so care is needed. Once on the plateau it levels out. The path is wide and well walked but be aware that it is rocky. The path can get wet but is rarely boggy along this route. We come down sharply along Jacobs Ladder. Poles may help. The walk back into Edale is gradual and pleasent. Be aware the we are on open moorland for the majority of this walk so all eventualities need to be prepared for. Bring plenty of layers, water, sun cream and waterproofs.
