What to Expect
Ilam park is lovely to explore and sits within lush green farmland. We take a trip up to Munsden Low to bag a less visited Ethel before heading across rich fields with views down the Manifold Valley and over to Thorpe Cloud. The River Hamps and Manifold are delightfully quieter than Dovedale and just as pretty. Ilam Hall and the ruins of Throwley Hall add some interest.
There is quite a bit of up and down in this walk, bagging an ethel and down into Dales. We take them nice and steady. There is a short amount of country lane walking, though we can walk in the fields next to it. The paths are all through fields and can get wet and boggy. There is a short bit of lane walking near the end but it is an access only lane, rarely used. There are a few stile and squeeze stiles to climb over.
