What to Expect
This scenic circular walk through the Derbyshire countryside is perfect for autumn, taking in the villages of Cromford, Crich, Lea, and Dethick. Expect a rich display of seasonal colour, especially in the ancient woodland of Bow Wood, where golden leaves blanket the forest floor. The route offers fantastic views over the Derwent Valley, with Riber Castle standing proudly on the horizon. With a mix of woodland paths, open fields, and quiet lanes, it's ideal for dogs and walkers alike.
We warm our legs up along the Cromford canal, beware of runners and cyclists. Its then up and up through fields with livestock and horses. We do have to cross a few low traffic roads. We stay high for most of the walk with some ascent and descent. This is all mainly through fields so expect some mud! We pass through a few woods on the way down, the tree roots and rocks make the ground very uneven so care is needed on the descent. This walk is filled with stiles and squeeze stiles. We are still in civilisation throughout but do not pass any cafes or toilets.
