What to Expect
This beautiful autumn walk starts from Tideswell Dale and follows the winding River Wye through some of the Peak District’s most picturesque dales. The route takes in the striking limestone outcrop of Peter’s Stone and the peaceful, wooded slopes of Cressbrook Dale, glowing with autumn colour. Returning through Miller’s Dale and the enchanting Water-cum-Jolly, the walk offers a perfect mix of dramatic geology, tranquil riverside paths, and seasonal beauty.
We have a little road walking to begin with but soon start along open fields. We have livestock along this walk, mainly sheep at this time of year. Care is needed walking through Cressbrook Dale as it can be steep and uneven underfoot. We do have some ascent but it is barely noticeable. Once we are along the river the path is wide and largely graveled, it can still be uneven in places. There are some stiles and squeeze stiles but mostly in the beginning of the walk.
